Travel has been John’s passion since he was a summer exchange student in Peru during high school. A 2007 trip to Bhutan changed his life, so struck with the beauty of Bhutan, its wonderful people and the unique feel of the country that he founded Champaca Journeys.
Dorji and John became acquainted when he guided John’s first Bhutan trip in 2007. Dorji is one of the few guides/tour operators in Bhutan to possess the necessary levels of government licensing and we are honored to be partnered with Dorji.
Sangay, a graduate of the University of Bhutan, and former assistant guide with Champaca Journeys now dedicates his time to making excellent coffee and managing our new Champaca Café in Paro.
Another long time friend of Champaca Journeys, Younten has worked in several of Bhutan's best hotels before deciding to become a guide. We are honored to have him on our staff and our clients enjoy his personality, sense of humor and knowledge he brings to his profession.
Bimal helps with promotion in our Thimphu office. He is also a fitness instructor and professional bodybuilder, we at Champaca Journeys wish him well in the upcoming Mr. Bhutan contest.
Dorji has a master's degree from Wageningen University in the Netherlands and works for the Thimphu UNICEF office in children's welfare issues. He has traveled all over Bhutan and assists Champaca Journeys in evaluating new destinations, and also helps find us lecturers, as he seems to know just about everyone in Bhutan.
Ganga first came to the attention of Champaca Journeys when he was the bartender at the Gangtey Palace Hotel in Paro. He made a great cocktail and was always ready with a great smile and interesting conversation. He became a guide in 2012, and the hotels loss was certainly our gain. He brings his winning personality and smile to his guiding career.
Nima is from remote eastern Bhutan and moved to Thimphu after finishing his studies. He is an inveterate bird watcher and can identify most of Bhutan's many species of birds by sight and sound. Not only is he an excellent guide and naturalist, he is also one of the few motorcycle guides in Bhutan.
A former Buddhist monk, Serd has great understanding for the secular parts of Lao life, and brings great sensitivity and humor to his work as a tour operator
Born on a farm near Siem Reap, Sopheara's dream was to visit Angkor Wat as a young boy. His first visit made such an impression that he studied to be a guide, and now he brings compassion and a great sense of humor to all his tours.
